Swords are often the weapon of choice in Minecraft when fighting against monsters or dueling with other players. Some will rely on enchanted bows to kill each other from afar, but unless you’re dealing with wide open spaces or bodies of water, the odds to actually land an arrow are pretty low. The 3D Sword resource pack makes swords look a lot better than they normally do by giving them 3D models and a brand new look. As it is, the pack only works with vanilla Minecraft swords, but there are plans to include new models for a number of custom weapons added by mods.
To be honest, there are actually several different versions of the 3D Sword Pack – 10 different packs in all. Each of these apply different graphics to Minecraft’s standard swords, so even without models for other mods, you can get weapons that look like maces, flails, lightsabers, hammers, bats and wands, just to name a handful of the different graphics available. The thing is, because this is a resource pack, the changes are simply cosmetic. If you want weapons that look and act different, you’ll probably want to go check the mods section of your favorite Minecraft website instead.
Many players will be happy to know the 3D Sword resource pack manages to stick to a 16x resolution. This is because only the swords really get any updates in appearance; every other block, item and weapon in Minecraft looks the same, regardless of the version of the pack which might be installed. If you want something simple that just dresses up melee weapons, then this pack will probably do you just fine. Others seeking improved combat will want to check mods instead.
