Dragons have been used too many times as the last boss in video games, books, movies and other media. They’re big, scaly, tough and they breathe fire; all qualities which make them the perfect villains, really. But what if you don’t feel like slaying a dragon today? Maybe you can take one for a ride instead. The Dragon Mounts mod for Minecraft adds tameable dragons to the game – dragons you can then saddle up and mount, using them to fly through the skies and cover great distances in a fraction of the time. Just don’t freak out the first time you see them. They use the enderdragon textures.
You must have a saddle handy if you want to ride your tamed dragon, so keep an eye open for underground dungeons, fortresses and temples where you might find one. Once you’ve tamed them, dragons can be handled more or less like other tameable mobs. Feeding them bones will tell them to sit and wait in a location or get up and follow the player again, if they were already seated. There’s even an extra command so server owners can just walk up to any dragon they see and tame it. The command works in single player too.
And that’s basically all there is to the Dragon Mounts mod. You can tame dragons and fly them around, though you can’t breed them together yet. You won’t get them to help you in combat either, so you’ll still want to keep a few wolves around if you like the assistance they provide. While they do help you to get airborne and move quickly, that is all they do, so don’t go uninstalling your other mount mods just yet.
