Fantastic Foods Mod for Minecraft 1.8

Food mods in Minecraft are always appreciated thanks to the variety they add to the game; new ways to eat means new ways to not starve in the middle of nowhere, and it’s hard to say anything bad about that. The only issue is when those mods become redundant, like the Lamb Chops mod, which added lamb meat and chops to Minecraft before Mojang did the same thing on their own end. Now that’s just a tiny piece of the Fantastic Foods mod, which features all kinds of tasty vittles you can’t get any other way. Ever wanted to eat bats or squids? Here’s your chance.

Besides the raw meats dropped by these two animals, you also get cooked varieties of each which both restore a little more hunger and give the player a much better level of saturation, which keeps players feeling fuller for longer. Fantastic Foods also lets you eat silverfish, which sometimes drop their tails, as well as zombie pigmen, which now drop rotten pork chops. That last food item is highly poisonous and apt to kill the player, and so it must be fed through a featured Purifier item and converted into healthy, edible pork chops before consumption.

If this all sounds like too much work to you, then you’re not going to like this next part. The recipe for converting three pieces of wheat into a loaf of bread is actually disabled by the Fantastic Foods mod – instead players must first convert wheat into flour, then mix it with a water bucket to get dough which can then be baked into bread. The same thing goes for making cookies, except you need to add cocoa beans and sugar to the mix as well. While all of the food and other new items in this mod are fairly straightforward, this is one of the few mods that actually make it harder to cook vanilla food items.
