Grizzlybacon’s Resource Pack for Minecraft 1.8.8

Though it is somewhat simple and still includes a number of textures from vanilla Minecraft, Grizzlybacon’s Resource Pack looks good for being in the early stages of development. It’s really more of a handful of textures all crammed together and released to the community to get feedback for the author. Presumably, he will finish the pack if people like it, or change directions or just forget about it altogether if people don’t like it. Don’t let that put any pressure on you though – as a player seeking a new Minecraft experience, you shouldn’t worry about liking anything just to suit its author.

That’s not to say there’s nothing to like in Grizzlybacon’s Resource Pack either. Some of the mob textures, like the white and black spotted cows, look very good, actually much better than their vanilla counterparts. The various types of wooden blocks you get from trees are also much easier to tell apart thanks to this pack, which gives each different types of tree its own unique graphic, rather than the way vanilla Minecraft makes all of them look the same except for birch. You get a lot more than just palette swapping in this pack, and that’s pretty cool.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t extend below the surface of the world. While trees look different, coal, iron, redstone and lapis are all just palette swaps. Gold and diamonds look the exact same too, except for a different color. Emeralds are the only ore with a unique graphic in Grizzlybear’s Resource Pack, and because they’re so rare you might not ever see them to realize this in the first place. It’s a decent pack overall, but it still needs a lot of work before it’s finished.
