When you need to travel over large bodies of water in Minecraft, you can usually find a couple blocks of wood, convert them to planks and then build a boat. This allows for fast traveling on water, rather than the slow swimming that takes forever to cross even a small distance. If you try to put a boat into a pool of lava, however, it will burn right up immediately. Huge lava lakes are not uncommon in custom maps, or even on single player anymore, since 1.8 allows players to customize their worlds to a greater degree. To travel over lava, there’s nothing better than the Lavaboat mod.
Actually, the Lavaboat mod adds several new vessels, but the most notable one is probably the lava boat itself, which allows the player to sail over pools of lava. This is very useful for exploring the depths of the Nether or navigating any lava lakes which might appear in the normal world. The mod also adds a reinforced boat which isn’t destroyed when running into solid blocks at high speeds. This is excellent for cruising through swamp biomes, where even the lily pads can cause your boat to capsize, and come on, how much sense does that make?
Last but not least, the Lavaboat mod also adds large boats, which are probably even more useful than the lava boats when you are playing in the normal world. Large boats will carry the player and a passenger, which could be a friendly animal or even a villager. Whatever you decide to take with you on your voyage, you must secure it to the large boat using a lead, or else the item won’t really work correctly. With all the additional vessels, the Lavaboat mod might as well just be called the Boat mod.
