The Leben resource pack has a very interesting layout. Many of the textures are drawn in such a way that they look to be interconnected like puzzle pieces, rather than solid blocks sitting next to each other. The first time you see this pack it will probably disorient you a little, but once you get used to it the unique design is quite impressive. While many things look different this pack utilizes some of the regular textures from Minecraft, like the standard nether portal animations. Unlike the majority of packs that are incomplete upon release, Leben is already 100% finished and works with Minecraft 1.8.
The low 16x resolution allows Leben to be enjoyed by practically anyone with a computer that can play Minecraft. It’s a far cry from the game’s standard textures even if it shares their resolution though. The way the blocks are set up makes the world seem to leap out at you when you’re outside, though not so much when below the surface. All of the different ore types are easily identifiable thanks to bright and bold colors used for each. Rather than a spattering of color there is a single stone set in the center of these blocks. It’s easy to tell what you’re mining, even in the dark.
The Leben resource pack was actually created for a contest. The Simple Pack Showdown 3 featured a great deal of other inspired packs with low resolutions and major changes to the appearance of Minecraft. This one really stands out among the lot though thanks to the interesting interlocking textures. Mobs, villagers and a couple other textures remain the traditional Minecraft textures, but this is a pretty thorough resource pack otherwise. Leben is worth a look if you want your game to look entirely different.
