To be honest, there are many different high definition resource packs out there which seem to emulate the look of vanilla Minecraft while making the game look better with significantly improved textures or other slight, but noticeable changes. This particular Minecraft HD resource pack by ShadowTime1290 features a boosted resolution of 64x, which alone puts it well ahead of most of the other HD vanilla packs you will find. Basically, the increased resolution allows for more details to go into every block, from simple wooden planks to the rare and elusive beacon item. Things just look better, here.
That said, if you’re just looking for a simple enhancement to the game’s graphics, the Minecraft HD resource pack is perfect. Things look better, but none of the textures are so different from their standard appearance that an experienced player would have a difficult time telling just what they are. Stone still looks like stone, wheat still looks like wheat and obsidian still looks like obsidian, and so on. Some nice visual effects were added to many blocks to give them a kind of 3D appearance though – lines drawn along the sides of a block to give it an elevated surface are a good example of this.
Not all of the textures are improved, however. While most of the blocks, items and other textures do look better thanks to this Minecraft HD resource pack, a couple just look like trash. Namely, netherrack looks worse than it does normally. That’s kind of a big deal, since that and lava are about the most common things you’ll see while traveling through the Nether. Thankfully the low lighting in the place should make the poor tiling effects kind of blend into shadow and not be such an eyesore.
