Playing Minecraft in multiplayer servers can become fairly annoying fairly fast. There’s no guarantee other players won’t steal your loot, burn down your house or trample your farm, not to mention kill you in the process. However, playing alone in single player mode can be equally frustrating, since many mobs are just too tough for lone players to successfully beat. Thanks to the Pig Companion mod, now players can turn pink porkers into friendly mobs which help the player take on hostile creatures throughout Minecraft. Once they’re tamed, pigs will fight to the death with the player against anything they see.
Besides making pigs inherently aggressive, Pig Companion makes some other small changes to Minecraft to really put the emphasis on those pigs. Players can give their pigs helmets of leather, gold, iron or diamond to seriously increase their health and lasting ability. Naturally, leather does the least amount of good and diamond does the most, but oddly enough, chain helmets won’t work for this purpose at all. Thanks to some small tweaks, pigs will breed with wheat and can be lured with the same, and they also heal by eating seeds, which can be obtained pretty much anywhere there is grass.
Armored pig companions tend to fare well against zombies, skeletons and other bipedal mobs, but they often get wrecked by Endermen and both normal and cave spiders. They also can’t fly, so naturally ghasts will rip apart any pigs the player has tamed. This mod is still being updated as of the writing of this review, with new additions being planned and implemented at present. Soon, there will be a super saddle for turning armored pig companions into war horses of sorts, allowing for faster movement. Trying to craft one of these super saddles will crash Minecraft just now, so check often to see when that’s fixed.
