Most Minecraft players are skeptical when they hear about simple packs that make the game look more modern, and with good reason. It’s hard to make a world in Minecraft that looks like the one outside of it when relying on textures that look cartoony. But the Simply Modern resource pack actually does a pretty good job of making this happen. It might not look like it, but this pack actually features a resolution of 64x, which would normally allow for significantly more detail in the textures. However, there are lots of solid pastel colors and very little natural shading in this pack.
Perhaps the extra graphics were spent on updating the mobs. Both hostile monsters and friendly mobs all look different, but not so different that you can’t still tell what they are from a glance. And speaking of friendly mobs, animal pens do look much better than normal in the Simply Modern resource pack. Most of the blocks look boring but a few really shine through, like wooden and stone fences to name a couple. The GUI gets a nice update and some solid grays and blacks in the color department and many items have new looks, especially when viewing the icons from your inventory.
One nice touch is the new look for different kinds of potions. If you ever had trouble organizing your pots in Minecraft before because they all just look the same, you’ll be very happy with the way this pack presents potions. If you really want the textures in this Simply Modern resource pack to explode off the screen, you would do well to apply a compatible shader pack to get decent shadow and lighting effects. You’re not going to get them otherwise.
