If you’re a fan of the Silent Hill gaming series and all the dark, atmospheric fear which permeates through some of those games, you will really like T42’s HD resource pack for Minecraft. Granted, there are already a couple different Silent Hill themed packs out there, but then T42’s HD resource pack isn’t really a Silent Hill resource pack – it’s just dark and gritty, with many textures looking worn or damaged and made to look that way on purpose. The first time you find an underground dungeon with this resource pack enabled, you’ll see these textures put to great effect to make a frightening little hole in the ground.
T42’s HD resource pack revises textures above the ground as well. Specifically, players will get an air of Ancient Greece of Rome thanks to the marble-white color of various stone bricks, which now look perfect when placed into columns and other construction. While some textures like sugarcane remain the same, this resource pack does a good job of modifying about 90% of Minecraft, which is excellent considering the 64x resolution and the small size of T42’s HD resource pack. This pack is compatible with Minecraft versions up to 1.6, but there are some issues with it.
First, fire and burning animations just don’t seem to be finished. This really stands out when you’re using flint and steel to clear out a forest and make workable land, but it isn’t a problem most of the time. What you can’t escape is the ugly GUI which many players have complained about – that’s there every time you open your inventory or a chest, or whenever you want to craft something. However, these are purely cosmetic issues. T42’s HD resource pack doesn’t cause game crashes or other problems, so it’s still technically a working resource pack.
