What are the elements that make up the world? That depends on who you ask. Modern scientists look to the Periodic Table of Elements when asked this question. Chinese Taoists would refer you to the Wu Xing, or Metal, Fire, Wood, Earth and Water. The Different Elements is far less scientific or philosophic though – it’s just a Minecraft map. It’s a pretty good one too if you haven’t already tried it for yourself. It’s essentially a set of puzzles where you clear the way to move forward by using the appropriate element in the appropriate place.
These “elements” are actually blocks you must place at the right point in the world to cause a positive reaction and progress forward. There are some parkour aspects too, but they are somewhat limited since the course itself is trapped in the confines of a box, so you never get that feeling where you’re surrounded by wide open spaces and hope you don’t fall. Maybe it has something to do with being the first map by its author, but The Different Elements is also kind of ugly. There are big stacks of barrier blocks everywhere to prevent players from skipping jumps, but they’re real eyesores.
How to install The Different Elements Map?
- Press the Windows or Start button, then press R. This will open the Run prompt.
- Type %appdata% into the prompt and run the command.
- A folder filled with other folders will now open. Just find the Minecraft folder among these and open it.
- In .minecraft you will find another folder, saves. Unzip and move your world file into this folder and you’re all done.
