The Last of Us was a critically acclaimed video game starring a grizzled old guy and a young girl trying to make it through the end of days, with lots of zombies, bandits and other dangers lurking around every corner. While The Last of Us resource pack doesn’t manage to add all the sneaking, conversation of ammunition and brutal melee attacks from the game to Minecraft, it does offer players a distinctively different world. Things simply look different. Many textures appear to be worn or older, while others look as if they’ve been overgrown by nature after mankind fell.
You’ll notice the differences right from the game’s title screen. All the wide open landscapes, lush fields and winding rivers that usually appear when you start up Minecraft are all replaced by what appears to be a broken, blasted cityscape. Apparently this is almost an exact reproduction of the title screen from The Last of Us, so that’s pretty neat. Many colors look to be bleached out, as if they’ve been baking in the sun and naturally lost a bit of their intensity and tone over time. This pack gives Minecraft an overall desperate look, as if you’re walking into the world long ago depopulated.
A number of weapons and items from the game also show up in the resource pack, like lead pipes. Most of the weapons are just reskins of existing Minecraft weapons like wooden, stone or iron swords, so they aren’t overpowered modded weapons or anything – they just look different. The Last of Us resource pack is so dedicated to making Minecraft look overgrown and wild that even some of the painting images have been replaced with leaves and vines creeping up along walls.
