Triton Resource Pack for Minecraft 1.8.8

Some players complain that Minecraft looks too much like a cartoon to take the game seriously. On the other hand, there are other players who wish the game looked even more like a cartoon, since it’s not a very realistic video game in the first place. The Triton resource pack is for the latter folks who are seeking a way to add color and vibrancy to Minecraft’s blocks, items and other textures. The pack features some cel-shaded graphics, which you will see in action even on basic blocks and textures. For example, the grass which you can break to get wheat seeds looks amazing and cel-shaded here.

Other textures have that same computer generated look which the grass has. The resolution for the textures as a whole is neither so high that the average player can’t use the pack, nor so low that the textures end up looking blurry, blocky and bad. It’s right in the middle. Some players with up to 24 GB of RAM have complained about experiencing lag with the Triton resource pack enabled, but others with far weaker machines haven’t said anything bad about framerates, so the users experiencing a slowdown when playing might be suffering from some other issues.

The main advantage of cel shading over other types of drawings and animations is that it generally is much easier on GPUs compared to textures which are more realistic. That said, it makes little sense that a resource pack like Triton would cause so much trouble for high-end PC users. The only way to find out if it will work for you is to download the pack and give it a try for yourself. If it goes badly, at least you can warn other players.
