Web Displays Mod is a Minecraft modification that allows players to browse the web and interact with virtual computers.

Here’s a mod which might seem kind of redundant to some players. The Web Displays mod allows players to literally surf the Internet while playing their favorite game, through the use of a brand new Web Screen Block, among other new entities. To surf the web, you will need a total of 144 of this new block, arranged in a 16x9x1 shape. This takes up a good bit of space in the world and you will need a large patch of perfectly flat land to get things started, but once you do, the sky is the limit, just like when you’re surfing the net outside of Minecraft.

That’s just the start though. The Web Displays mod requires you to make a Minepad (play on iPad) to actually interact with the screen, plus some other specialty items to make browsing easier once you’re actually set to start searching the Internet. It’s a nice enough mod, and it implements some pretty interesting elements like connectivity to the world outside of Minecraft, but there’s no doubt that watching videos on Youtube is a lot easier when you just open Firefox or your usual browser, rather than doing it through Minecraft. Very interesting, but complicated and messy, this mod is still fun to try.

How to Use

Here’s a tutorial about using and crafting Web Displays in Minecraft.

The Screen:

First, you need to craft some web screens blocks like this:

The Screen

Then, build a little wall with them (minimum size: 2×2) and right-click on the side where you want the screen to appear (check that you don’t have any items in your hand).

That’s it, you created your screen.

  • Shift-Right Click to change the URL.
  • To click on a link/button, simply right-click it with nothing in the hand.

The minePad:

Ok, so you have a web browser in a block, now what about a web browser in an item?

minePad

Once you created it, you need to right-click a real screen (made out of web screens blocks) and you’ll see what is shown on the screen but on your this tablet!

The Peripherals:

Peripherals are blocks that can be connected to a screen using the Wireless Linker:

You have to right-click the screen first and then the peripheral with it.

  • Note that peripherals can be wherever you want in the world, there is no distance from the screen limit.
  • It just has to be in the same dimension.
The Keyboard:

To type things on the web screen, you’ll need the keyboard:

After linking it to a screen with the linker, just right-click it with nothing in the hand, type whatever you want, and press Escape when you have done.

The Computer Interface:

If you want to use ComputerCraft to interact with the screen, here is the computer interface:

After linking it to a screen using the linker, place a computer next to it.

You can access its functions using peripheral.wrap("SIDE_OF_THE_INTERFACE")

To know which functions are available, you can watch this little tutorial:
The Repeater:

This peripheral is a little bit special; it’ll repeat what a real screen will show (called “source”), but on another screen (called “repeater).

  • Build two 16×9 screens (using web screen blocks).
  • Turn on the source screen (right-click it with nothing in the hand).
  • Then, select it by right-clicking it using the wireless linker.
  • Once the source has been selected, click on the second screen using the linker.
The Remote Controller:

The Remote Controller once linked to a screen will enable you to change the URL of its linked screen wherever you want; this might be useful to make a screen control room and change the URL from far.

i have a problem with my minecraft I put the mod in and it works but when I put a website in it doesn’t load the page on the minepad and screen however it works on the trollcraft mudpack what am I doing wrong

I hope that you guys all read the original thread for this mod. It specifically states that the mod will not work with NON-WINDOWS USERS. That includes OS X. There is one way to run it on a mac, that is to run BootCamp and then proceed to install a windows partition.
