Sometimes even simple resource packs can offer a lot more than just the slightly changed graphics you see at first. K44du2’s Simpleton resource pack is a good example of this. With a low resolution of 16x it doesn’t provide textures that look much better than normal Minecraft, even if many of the blocks and items do look different. However, this pack does a few other things which really help it to stand out from other low-res packs. For starters, it has several animated textures, as well as a few different textures for each mob for a nice kind of “random” feel to the monsters seen by the player.
Additionally there are several other nice graphical changes you can look forward to finding in the Simpleton Pack. A number of different paintings replace all of the original art, and this is cool because it is one area where many low res resource packs fall short, mostly for the sake of keeping their resolution low. To be fair, some of the mobs don’t look like they were really changed at all. The creeper, for instance, looks exactly the same as normal, if perhaps a darker shade of green. Chickens are also unchanged, but otherwise this resource pack really comes through.
Unlike many packs which can be confusing for those who are just starting Minecraft, K44du2’s Simpleton resource pack is quite intuitive. Even a complete noob at the game would still be able to tell which blocks are wood, stone, metals, igneous rocks, clays and so on. Strangely enough, some of the textures actually look significantly better than in many higher resolution packs. You’ll probably want to take some time to stop and stare at the lava when you first see it, especially in the Nether.
