The Spire resource pack by Mystic Spire is a fine 64x resource pack which features some reflective textures that appear to make light bounce back and off of them when you’re looking at them from just the right angle. You’re not going to experience too many lens flares or other signs of lights being bounced around, but the fact the pack does even this much is pretty cool. The name of the game here is layers, and you’ll see that as soon as you load up a world and start building. Wooden blocks, sandstone and lots of other blocks used for construction all appear to be stacked in layers.
Unlike a lot of other unfinished resource packs, the Spire pack is actually pretty close to done. All of the armor textures have been revamped and nearly all (97.5%) of the blocks also look different with this pack installed. The numbers are a little less impressive when talking about other aspects of Minecraft though. About 84% of all the items have been remapped, and the GUI and entities are much close to 50-55% finished. These numbers tell a story even if you can’t see it – this is a pack which is nearly finished and which has enjoyed regular updates from its author over the last year.
There are a number of add-ons you should consider picking up to work alongside the Spire resource pack, unless of course you have them already. The odds are good that you do too, as long as you mod a bit in Minecraft. Optifine is great for connecting textures like glass to make windows actually look like windows rather than a collection of independent panes slapped together. It also randomizes some of the stone textures.
