There aren’t many resource packs with a resolution which is lower than that which you normally find in Minecraft, but there are a few. The MagiCraft pack is one of these, and despite its 8x resolution, it manages to pull of some pretty realistic textures, especially the different varieties of wooden planks and wool blocks. According to polls and the author as well, MagiCraft is actually the most popular 8x resolution resource pack on the PlanetMineCraft website, and that’s kind of a big deal considering how many packs can be found there. At the very least, you should give this one a look.
What you see may not be as impressive as it sounds here. To be sure, some of the textures actually look quite bad, including the cobblestone and blocks made from it, like stairs, slabs and so on. These stone textures look mottled and blurry, like someone used a tool in Photoshop or something to decrease visibility, like the exact opposite of making the image sharper. The sun looks even less realistic than usual too considering the MagiCraft resource pack makes it look like a giant, burning plus sign in the sky. Clouds are also flatter than ever if you can imagine that.
The best part about MagiCraft is probably the fact it is still getting regular updates. Although it is over two years old today, the author is still adding new content as Minecraft continues to add new content, which means this pack is compatible with many older versions of the game – not just the newer ones. The fact that Minecraft’s performance actually improves when you lower the resolution with a pack like this is another reason you might want to try it.
