The Porkchop Media resource pack for Minecraft may come with a large resolution of 256x, but it leaves a lot to be desired given its large size. Many of the textures are flat, made from single colors with little variation and just as much detail put into them besides. It seems to get very high reviews, but some players comment that it looks a lot like standard Minecraft did back before things like Adventure mode were introduced. It’s not something newer players really know about, but there was a time when Minecraft textures were even more simple and basic than they are now.
Where Porkchop Media resource pack can really be seen working is in the player’s inventory, chests, crafting windows and other places where the GUI is part of the picture. Not only is the user interface much easier on the eyes than that in traditional Minecraft, but many of the item icons have been replaced with significantly higher resolution images, with different images for different levels of items and not just palette swaps. It might not sound like a big deal, and when the majority of the rest of the world looks like plain old Minecraft, it really isn’t. But this is where Porkchop Media resource pack shines, so it must be said.
Perhaps Porkchop Media resource pack is so large because it has a lot of built-in compliance with some pretty popular mods. However, making it mandatory to have these mods installed is kind of reaching. To get this resource pack working properly, not only do players need to download and install it, but they also need the latest version of MCPatcher, as well as the latest versions of HD Textures, HD Font and Random Mobs. There is inherent support for Connected Textures too, but that last one isn’t necessary for Porkchop Media resource pack to work.
