Despite its low 16x resolution, the Pixel Perfect resource pack manages to improve the appearance of many blocks and items from Minecraft. Barriers have been inserted between most blocks, making things like stone and dirt which are normally seamless look more like glass paned and blocks, where there are obvious black lines in the borders between the blocks. In this sense, the pack is like the polar opposite of the connected textures mod. Let’s just say it makes Minecraft look like something else altogether; that’s not exaggerating in the least. Just try mining and you’ll see for yourself.
The various ore and gem blocks in Minecraft are some of the best looking ones in Pixel Perfect. Lapis, iron and other resources are all easy to discern from one another because the traditional ore block face with all the colored chunks is replaced in this pack by a large, singular icon representing the resource in the block. Chunks of iron ore have a big iron ingot on the block, for example. This can make mining easy even if you don’t take any lighting with you. At least the blocks made with 9 of each of these resources still look like they ought to.
Moving beyond blocks, some of the other textures in the Pixel Perfect pack are actually kind of scary. Have a look at any old pig to get a good idea of what “scary” means here. They have no facial features at all – just two empty, black holes where eyes should be and a flat mouth. They almost look like electrical outlets you might find in a wall somewhere. If you’re looking for a Minecraft resource pack so simple it hurts, you’ve found it.
