World in a Jar Map for Minecraft 1.8.7

If you’ve read stories of seafarers, pirates and the like, you’ve probably seen the message in a bottle trope used in the past. Someone, stranded somewhere, writes a letter and sends it off to parts unknown sealed in a glass bottle, where it is eventually found and read, leading to an adventure. Have you ever heard of an entire world in a bottle though? The World in a Jar map lets Minecraft players feel what it’s like to build in a very limited, closed environment. There is wood, stone, even some iron, but little more than that. The map provides a unique way to play the game.

Even from the first moments after you load up your World in a Jar, you’ll see just how hopeless the situation is. Suspended hundreds of blocks in the air, with nothing around as far as the eye can see, your world really is contained completely within the confines of the surrounding glass bottle. You could always break out, but with a long fall to a painful death waiting for you, there’s little reason to venture beyond the bottle. This is a perfect map for seeing just how much you can do with a compact space, but those who prefer big, sprawling homes will find it confining.
