The SpeedMine map is all about mining – chopping through stone to get at the sweet, valuable ores hidden within it. It takes what is essentially a boring and repetitive task in Minecraft and turns it into an exciting, entertaining event by adding a timer and applying point values for every type of ore. The more ore you gather, the higher your score. All of this operates on an 8-minute timer, and that’s pretty much standard stuff. The unique part about SpeedMine is the fact you can get a different map every time you play. This is thanks to some clever coding and the use of command blocks by the author.
With the press of an in-game button, the SpeedMine map will reset and redraw itself, dispensing ores in different places and creating a different experience with every playthrough. This ensures players can never get good at the map, since valuable ore deposits will move around with each reset. It will annoy some players, but the majority of people who see this map will like the fact it allows newcomers the same chance of success as veterans with far more experience. Not that you need the experience to mine ores – anyone who has played Minecraft before should do fine on this map.
