Sometimes it’s pretty easy to guess what a Minecraft mod does just with a look at its name. The Dessertcraft mod is one of those – it adds a number of dessert food items to the game. You can use wheat to make cones and then fill them with ice cream, made from milk buckets. This mod is actually pretty nice even if you only consider it gives you another use for milk. Beyond that though, there are lots of other new food items to find and consume, like chocolate chips, mint leaves, snow cones and more. No game-breaking equipment, no flashy capes or other graphics here, but plenty of dessert.
None of the food fills the hunger meter too much either. At either one and a half or two and a half hunger bars per item, you’re still getting more food than if you would use the same ingredients to make cookies. It’s a nice range because it doesn’t make the usual high end foods like cooked beef and pork irrelevant by giving the player 5 or more food bars. All of the new items are made from content which already exists in vanilla Minecraft too, so the Dessertcraft mod doesn’t add a ton of new content either. This is good for purists or people who just want a wider variety of food to eat.
Anyone who has ever lived on pumpkin pie knows that food bars don’t exactly equal a full stomach. There’s a saturation stat too and foods which offer higher saturation make the player feel fuller for longer. Steaks, pork chops and the like have high saturation. The items added by the Dessertcraft mod do not. While they are cheap and easy to make, you’ll find yourself eating more often if you just down desserts all the time.
