The way Minecraft is without mods, you have a rather limited selection of animals you could use as pets, and the fact you can hack up every friendly animal in the game for meat or other materials means you probably will eventually eat your pet. Silent’s Pets mod adds a great number of new animals to Minecraft, each of which can be tamed and domesticated by the player. However, unlike finding animals in the wild and dragging them back to your pen by holding the appropriate food item, you have to craft a Pet Summon item at any crafting table and use that to bring your new pet into existence.
Crafting the Pet Summon item requires you to collect 8 Pet Essence items. These come from killing other mobs – any other mobs. Zombies, skeletons, creepers, pig men and everything else you normally find and kill in the game will all have a low chance of dropping the Pet Essence you need to craft your summon. Neutral and friendly mobs like animals and villagers also have this drop chance. Silent’s Pets include the normal animals like cows, sheep and pigs, as well as rarer ones like wolves, cats and mooshrooms. They all have unique movement, health and damage specs too.
Unlike normal livestock, any pets you summon with Silent’s Pets mod will help you in a fight. You can command them to stay in one place or follow you, like tamed wolves. Using the built in Pet Wand you can also change up their armor, turn off their sounds and, with later versions of the mod, hopefully you’ll be able to pick them up and carry them out of a dangerous situation. This mod works just fine right now, though some features have yet to be implemented. It’s definitely worth a look if you want better pets in Minecraft.
