Starving to death is a painful experience in Minecraft. When you’ve got an inventory full of materials, tools and more but not a single piece of rotten flesh left to eat, it’s like taking your life into your own hands. The Hunger Strike mod seeks to take care of this serious problem in Minecraft by allowing players to have more control over their hunger bars – how much food it takes to fill a bar, how long a bar lasts, how much hunger it takes to sprint, and so on. There is a config file which is adjustable, so individual players can have unique settings for their own worlds while using this mod.
It’s not just positive effects, either. Because the Hunger Strike mod sets the maximum hunger level at half the full bar, players will never naturally regenerate health with this mod installed. They will need to farm materials and craft regeneration or healing potions, which can be tedious and even dangerous in some cases. That’s just not viable, but it’s also not the only way to heal, fortunately. Instead, food items will heal health directly, for half the amount they would normally heal the hunger bar. For example, since steaks give back four hunger points, they will now instantly heal two hearts when consumed.
The Hunger Strike mod also allows players the option of changing the stack size for their favorite foods. You could theoretically set the max stack size for steaks to 256 for example, giving you enough steak in one inventory slot to take up six to seven slots in vanilla Minecraft. That’s a lot of extra space on your character while you’re out mining, farming and hunting, so that’s a nice plus. If you’re looking for a new and improved food system in Minecraft, this mod could have exactly what you’re seeking.
