Sometimes the simplest things in life are the best. This is true not just of hobbies and pastimes, of relationships and careers; the principle even extends to Minecraft. The Painfully Simple resource pack simplifies many textures throughout Minecraft, which may be difficult to believe considering the vanilla textures are already so basic and simple that most players consider them ugly. However, this resource pack proves again that simple packs don’t necessarily need to look bad. In fact, if you’ve ever played the original Sonic games back on the Sega Genesis, Painfully Simple might look very familiar to you.
That’s because of the checkerboard motif you’ll see throughout Minecraft with this pack installed. Checkers are everywhere, from grass blocks to stone bricks, from slabs to fences to gates and trapdoors. Everything seems to be painted over with some checker gradient paint, and it can be enough to make you dizzy the first time you load up a world with the Painfully Simple resource pack installed. Maybe this is the part of the pack that is supposed to be painful. But it’s temporary; once you get over that initial discomfort, which may not affect you in the first place, you’ll be ready to go.
It’s actually not that bad if you’re running around on the ground or in the earth. If you have flying on or you’re playing on Creative, a bird’s eye view of your world might actually make you feel sick. The Painfully Simple pack doesn’t do anything to change the appearance of mobs, which could actually be a good thing since they would probably be all decked out in a checker motif too.
