Here’s an interesting mod with a misleading name. You might think the Zombie Infection mod adds a host of new zombies to Minecraft, but the only extra zombie is you! That’s right – with this mod installed, you too can become one of those lovely green walkers. Well, actually, the idea is that you don’t let the infection progress that far, but it might have been nice. Anyhow, when zombies hit you, they have a 10% chance to spread their disease to you, which is when this mod becomes really fun. Skeletons won’t give you the disease, so you don’t need to worry about getting close to them.
Basically, once you’re infected, your health will get progressively worse until you starve to death and die. Some players will complain that the Zombie Infection mod should have allowed them to eat other people to stay alive, but that’s not what this author had in mind. After contracting your infection, various negative effects will start to pile up, like slowness, mining fatique, weakness and more. The hunger effect will make it so you can’t restore any hunger points, regardless of how much you eat, meaning starvation won’t be too far off. If that wasn’t bad enough, it does get worse.
After 8 minutes of being infected without finding the cure, you’ll be overwhelmed by the wither effect, which will rapidly drain your life until you die. Thankfully, the cure isn’t too difficult to craft. You only need a few bottles of water, a gold ingot and some wheat to craft a small stack of three potions, each of which will cure your infection completely upon being ingested. When playing while using the Zombie Infection mod, you should make it a goal to produce a few of these cure potions as soon as possible and certainly before you invest a lot of time into your world.

I hate this mod so much
For some reason I can’t get the zombie cure to craft. I’ve seen two different recipes for making the cure, one that used a single water bottle, two sugar, three wheat, and a gold nugget to give you a bottle of the cure, and another that was said to use three bottles of water, two sugar, three wheat, and a gold nugget to make three bottles of the cure. Neither one worked. 🙁 Thankfully I had set my spawn point so I didn’t lose much, but it’s going to be annoying to starve to death every time I let my guard down or run low on food. Please fix? Once that was fixed, I’d say this would be a great mod, although probably not something anyone would want as a stand alone mod.
