Balkon’s Weapon Mod for Minecraft 1.7.10/1.7.2

There are several Minecraft mods that add new weapons to the game. However, Balkon’s Weapon Mod does more than just give the player new tools for the killing of hostile mobs and animals. There are new melee weapons, throwable weapons, bow-type weapons and even some miscellaneous items, like training dummies. These are actually very useful for testing out all the new weapons in a non-combat situation, so it’s kind of nice the mod creator included them in the mix. All of these custom weapons and items also come with their own textures, which is a nice touch. This is not just a collection of palette swaps!

Besides additional weapons and training items, Balkon’s Weapon Mod does allow the player one fantastic advantage. Cannons can be constructed and carried around, but they must be placed on a level surface to be of any practical use. Once placed, they can be mounted, much like a horse, then used to fire at any nearby enemies, including those nasty flying ghasts from The Nether. They need cannonballs and gunpowder to fire, so they are more expensive to use than the standard bow and arrows, but there’s still something super satisfying about exploding enemies in the style of a creeper.

It is impossible to make Balkon’s Weapon mod work properly without Minecraft Forge installed. Some of the items will not display correctly and crafting certain pieces of equipment will flat out cause Minecraft to crash, so it’s important to get the most recent version of Forge to go with the most recent version of Balkon’s WeaponMod. Both of these are fairly easy to find, plus Forge makes the mod easy to install, so they really go quite well together. If you are installing Balkon’s Weapon Mod on a Bukkit type server, the process is slightly different from that which is used for normal servers, so check out the mod website.

How to install Balkon’s Weapon Mod?

1. Requires Minecraft Forge, so install that first.
2. Move the downloaded weaponmod-v*.jar to the %appdata%/.minecraft/mods/ folder.
3. Start the game once to initialize the weaponmod.cfg file in the .minecraft/config/ folder.
4. Enjoy!
