Creating customized terrain in the world of Minecraft is a tedious process, even if you happen to be playing on Creative mode. That’s why programs like World Maker are so popular among map authors who like to include lots of custom terrain. They allow for world generation which is different from the process in Minecraft, along with giving the author a greater deal of control over things like elevation and depth, land, water and lava layout and more. The Biome Wand Mod seeks to bring some of that functionality from outside programs into Minecraft for the convenience of the player.
The wand itself is rather expensive in terms of materials needed to craft, and you’ll need to play the game for a while before you can actually make one. The Biome Wand Mod allows you to sort of copy and paste biomes on a small scale. By right clicking in the middle of a jungle, for instance, you can then walk off into a tundra biome somewhere and paste jungle into the snow. You need to right click the biome being copied before each paste operation though, so try not to wander too far. You can copy the biome which you’ve just freshly pasted too, though this sometimes yields poor results.
While the Biome Wand mod won’t allow you to create mountains and valleys wherever you wish, it does allow you to get access to all the plants and monsters available in Minecraft’s overworld. That means you can put a bit of swamp biome near your home for occasional lotuses and slime block enemies, as well as keep some mountains close to get a supply of wolves to tame. The best use for this mod is probably pulling up mooshroom biome and pasting it near your house though; those mooshrooms are great for infinite food and milk.
