The Dendrology mod, also known as the Ancient Trees mod by some, is the perfect mod for Minecraft players looking to add leagues of new vegetation to their tired worlds. In all, this mod adds thirteen new and different types of trees to the game, each with their own unique wood block and plank textures, just like oak, spruce, birch and the others already have. These trees come in a variety of heights, sizes and shapes, so they aren’t just the same tree except a little taller, or with a little more or less foliage. Each tree looks like its own kind of tree.
What does this mean for builders? Well, more than a dozen new types of wood and just as many new types of shrubs or bushes make building with wood and landscaping quite a bit more interesting. Because each of the new wood types can be used for every recipe that calls for wood, players now have thirteen more reasons they should never be without enough wood to build a crafting table, make some sticks and create some crappy wood tools. The Dendrology mod makes life in Minecraft easier by giving the player more useful resources, and that’s never a bad thing for a mod to do.
Trees and their leaves come in a range of colors and include purples, blues and other shades that don’t appear on tree in vanilla Minecraft. This makes the Dendrology mod perfect for creating custom worlds that look like alien landscapes as well. There are few mods which just seem perfectly suited to making custom maps around them, but this is definitely one of them. It goes without saying that all these new wood types will significantly affect world generation, so be sure to back up any existing worlds before loading them again once this mod is installed.
