Anyone who has watched a few Minecraft videos online has probably heard of Herobrine before. Herobrine is a legendary monster kind of guy which looks like the basic Steve skin but has eerie, glowing eyes. Oh, and he’s also evil. Though his lack of a presence in the game is kind of an inside joke at Mojang, someone out there decided to come up with the Herobrine mod and make the fantasy a reality by allowing the beast to spawn. There are some steps to follow in order to get things going, but once the right totem has been built, Herobrine will spawn and start terrorizing the player.
Herobrine is more or less intended to spook players and give them scares, not really attack them or try to hurt them like other hostile mobs. He will appear in random places, like right behind the player when they turn around, or next to their bed when they wake up after sleeping. He seems to phase in and out of the game, appearing and disappearing whenever he feels like doing so. He doesn’t have any drops and apparently can’t be killed anyhow, so players shouldn’t focus on attacking him when he pops up.
The Herobrine mod is a nice addition for horror and fright themed maps because it makes those scary scenarios even scarier. Some issues have been reported with the mod before. To make sure Herobrine spawns normally, only build one totem; multiple totems will prevent Herobrine from spawning at all. Additionally, some adjustments can be made to the Herobrine mod to increase or decrease the spawn rate of Herobrine, making him show up more or less often at the player’s discretion. Anyone who wants to add some good jump scares to their Minecraft gameplay should check out the Herobrine mod.
