The first thing that should be mentioned about The Void mod is that actually getting into the Void is very difficult. This mod, like Aether and many other mods, adds a new dimension to Minecraft, which is accessible by creating a number of items, combining them together, and making a portal. The Void features recipes and procedures which are far more complicated than what players have seen in any mod like it before though, and this isn’t a good thing. It’s quite the hassle to get into the Void, especially the first time you’re putting the crystals and other items together, when you’re clueless.
Unlike the Nether where portals continue to work indefinitely, and the player can come and go when they like, The Void mod features portals that actually run on resources and can burn through them completely. It is possible to get locked away inside the Void because of this. However, you will still return to your usual spawn point when you die, so you can always just suicide if you get stuck and want to go home. Because of this, you might want to be careful about taking any valuable gear into the Void. Still, this new dimension does have a few nice things to offer.
For one, Dr. Who fans will recognize randomly spawning Tardises around the Void. You can use these to escape when your standard Void walker portal runs out of fuel, and you can even build your own Tardis if you harvest some of the Void ore. There are dozens of different recipes to learn with The Void mod, so there is a real learning curve which will take some time to overcome. If you’re looking for a mod which totally changes the way Minecraft works, you might really like The Void. Most players will probably want to just stay away from this mod though.
