Just where do players put all the weapons, tools, items, food and other goods they carry around in Minecraft? Steve sure doesn’t look like he’s carrying a bag of some kind while he’s out adventuring. The Backpacks plugin for Bukkit adds usable backpacks to Minecraft servers using the Bukkit extension. These special bags are totally vanilla since they can be crafted from materials which already exist in the Minecraft world, without adding any other mods, plugins or packs to your game folders. Alternatively, you can also simply spawn bags using simple commands to do so.
One of the best features of the Backpack Item plugin is the fact these backpacks work just the same as the ones you would get from the Backpack Mod. They can be loaded up with goods, traded with other players, cloned in a sense similar to making copies of maps and destroyed by being blown up or tossed (or dropped upon player death) into a pool of lava. Therefore, if you’re looking for a plugin that will save player items or keep them from being destroyed by lava, this isn’t it. You might want to check out the Gravestone Mod instead if you’re sick of losing your items to lava.
Interestingly, you can’t just open a backpack. Besides the bag, you also need a backpack key to open the lock and make the bag accessible. There are commands for giving players bags, keys and even clones of other bags, as well as changing and forcing a reload of the attached language file. The only thing the Backpack Item plugin doesn’t do is allow you to see the inventory of another player’s backpack. That would make trading really easy, like in Team Fortress 2. As it is, you’ll just need to ask people if they have what you’re looking for in each trade.
