Have you ever played Starbound, or maybe Crash Landing? Games where you end up lost in space and are forced to survive using whatever means are available are certainly growing in popularity these days. The concept is even showing up in other existing games too, like the Planetary Confinement map in Minecraft. Named The Dunes by its author, this is just the first in a series of maps which take a great deal of inspiration from other mining, hunting, farming, and building games, like Starbound. It was made entirely in vanilla Minecraft so no mods, packs, or other software are necessary to make the map work.
The Dunes map is about 2,000 square blocks in the area and loaded with custom, hand-placed terrain and buildings. Thereโs plenty to see and do on the surface, but the real thrill in exploring this map comes from going below the earth and finding the alien life forms waiting for you in the dark. One of the nice touches on this map is that you need water to survive just like you need food. Compounding that is the fact you get dehydrated more quickly when exposed to direct sunlight and when moving around during the day rather than the night. This is definitely a map worth checking out.
