Though you might get a Don’t Starve feeling from a Minecraft map called Survive the Night, it’s actually a lot more similar to tower defense games. This map takes advantage of many special features new to Minecraft 1.8, including particle effects, random entities, and other features. All of these are used to good effect to create a fun and well-made tower defense game. Like similar games, the goal here is to stop the enemies – zombies in this case – from getting to the end of a long, winding track. It was specifically designed for at least a team of four players; using fewer than four will make you lose.
Unlike most tower defense maps which are split up into rounds of building and fighting, you get the whole day to work on building and fixing things in Survive the Night. Once the sun goes down though, you’ll be fighting nonstop until it either rises again or the zombies make it to the end of their path and kill the King. With five unique player character kits to choose from you’re guaranteed a unique experience for at least the first five times you play Survive the Night. That’s already saying more than a lot of other tower defense maps can.
