Even though Halloween has come and gone already this year, that doesn’t mean you can’t still get a good scare out of a horror map on Minecraft. Lights Out is such a map, and it has a few good frights to get you jumping out of your skin. Before you get started with this map though, make sure you do a couple of things. First, turn off Optifine. This won’t be a problem at all if you don’t have it installed, but if you do, the connected textures and other features will make Lights Out look very bad in some places. Second, be sure to turn your graphics to Fancy.
The plot is fairly simple, but like most Minecraft maps, the fun in Lights Out is in the gameplay rather than the story. You wake up, alone, after hearing something break in the middle of the night. But you find the electricity is out, forcing you to navigate your house in the dark. Fans of Amnesia: The Dark Descent will probably like the limited lighting aspect of Lights Out: you’ll have to rely on candles to illuminate your path, and they aren’t exactly easy to find. This map won’t take long to beat, but it will probably make you jump a few times in the process.
