In a game which is as blocky as Minecraft, it might be hard to believe that mobs could be made to look even more like a mass of cubes and squares than they already do. You might think that, but if you do, you’re wrong. Minecraft’s animals and mobs have designs on them which aren’t exactly blocky, like the patches of color on cows or the shapes of the eyes and nose on sheep, pigs and other animals. The Blocky Mobs mod does away with all of that and brings a crippling kind of symmetry to mobs in Minecraft, making everything, everything, look blocky and 8-bit, like the graphics on the old Nintendo.
Naturally, this leads to a reduced resolution in a lot of images. Oddly enough the resolution of the pack is actually boosted to 32x from the 16x vanilla bit count. Blocky Mobs does nothing to improve the textures of blocks, items, icons or the GUI, so it’s kind of strange that with textures which are strictly reduced in quality, the pack should actually make Minecraft demand more resources to play. Still, if you can play Minecraft at all as it is, then you’ll be fine with Blocky Mobs enabled.
It’s a very thorough pack, at least in terms of changing the looks of mobs in Minecraft. Just about every mob in Minecraft 1.8.X gets a facelift from this resource pack, though some have yet to be done and are planned for future updates. Right now most of the classic mobs have already been modded, like the creeper, zombie, skeleton and spider. Friendly mobs like villagers and tamed wolves also look different though – this isn’t just a pack for hostile mobs.
