Sailing around in Minecraft has long been a boring prospect. First you craft something that looks like a bathtub made out of wood and then you hop in the thing which speeds off in whatever direction you want, without the use of a sail, an engine or anything else to propel it. More often than not, you also crash and destroy your vessel, even if you come up on land slowly, trying to do the exact opposite. The Ships Mod for Minecraft expands on sailing and allows players to create ships that actually move by using a number of blocks.
Ships can be launched out to sea and docked using a couple commands, and they must be docked before players can modify them in any way. These ships can include a holding area where you keep chests, crafting tables, pretty much whatever you want. And you can access these devices even while your ship is moving, though it would be pretty foolish to step away from the wheel while you’re mobile. Like other mods which add new vehicles to Minecraft, the Ships Mod has plenty of compatibility issues with other mods. It also doesn’t work with Minecraft versions 1.6.4 and beyond.
